Harvest Kitchen

The Harvest Kitchen at the Extension Learning Farm in Canton is a shared-use kitchen space at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Learning Farm (2043 State Highway 68 in Canton). The facility is fully equipped with cookware and utensils as well as variety of specialized equipment.

Nature’s Storehouse, located in Canton, New York is healthy alternative to the grocery stores and their bulletin board (and staff) offer an an excellent opportunity to find out about local homesteading-oriented opportunities. Nature’s sells organically grown and produced food as well as other healthy odds and ends! Freshly made wraps, salads and soups available as well.

Traditional Arts in Upstate New York collects, preserves, interprets, and presents the customs and traditions of the North Country. Potsdam Food Co-op

The Co-op is a natural-foods grocery store and bakery. The store carries all the items you typically buy from week to week, and also countless specialty items you might not find in an ordinary supermarket. Owned and operated by its members, the Co-op has been a part of the North Country since 1973. The Co-op has a new brick oven bakery.

Gardenshare

GardenShare is a locally led, nonprofit organization seeking to end hunger and strengthen food security in northern New York State. GardenShare works to build a North Country where all of us have enough to eat and enough to share—where our food choices are healthy for us, for our communities, and for the environment.

The region’s back to the land movement is now starting to be documented in a digital collection at St. Lawrence University. Members of the homestead community are not content, however, to dwell on a colorful and productive past. Rather, there is a vision of a vibrant, healthy, and sustainable rural community to be nurtured.
